Sindh province is an ancient land known as the “Cradle of Successive Civilizations” dating its history back to 7000BCE – the era when the Mehergarh settlement expanded westwards. It then gave rise to the highly developed society called the “Indus Valley Civilization” that existed between 3000 BC to 1500 BCE. The term “Sindh” is believed to have derived from a Sanskrit word “Sindhu” which essentially means “ocean, river or stream” referring primarily to “Indus River”. Sindh has some of the extraordinary tourist attractions and world heritage sites that reflect the rich history of the province.

Covering a total area of 140,914 km², the Sindh province is bordered by Balochistan province to the west, Punjab province to the north, the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan to the east and southeast, and the Arabian Sea to the south. Karachi, the financial hub, the largest and most populated city is the provincial capital making the province the second-largest economy. Sindhi is the provincial language while English and Urdu are the official languages.

Sindh is home to numerous tourist attractions, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites, from ruined cities to glorious monuments. Key attractions include Mazar-e-Quaid, Quid-e-Azam House Museum, National Museum, State Bank Museum, Karachi Maritime museum, Frare Hall, Mohatta Palace, golden beaches, shopping malls and religious monuments in Karachi; Chaukandi tombs, the ruins of Bhambore, Makli Necropolis, Keenijhar Lake, Heliji Lake, Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, Kirthar National Park, Gorakh Hills, Mohenjo Daro, Ranikot Fort, Kot Diji Fort, Noor Mahal Palace in Khairpur, Sukkur Barrage, Sindh Museum and numerous tombs and shrines are some of the major tourist attractions.

Karachi, the city of lights, is accessible by an international airport with direct and indirect access from around the world and also has one of the largest seaports. The Indus highway connects Karachi and other cities of Sindh with Punjab and the rest of Pakistan. Makran Coastal highway connects Karachi and Gwadar which is the future business hub and port in Pakistan.
