Little Tibet is located in the mountain kingdom of Gilgit-Baltistan. The region is also home to some of the world’s highest mountains including K2, Broad Peak, and a number of above 8000m and 7000m peaks while there are uncountable numbers of peaks up to 7000m high. The prominent Baltoro glacier leading to the hub of mountains and tributary glaciers also lie in the region.

Shigar and Khaplu remained independent states under local princes until their accession into the state of Pakistan in 1974.
